Hey guys! it's been a while! lately I've been swamped with balancing work as well as school and not to mention having CLIENTS. I currently have a case load of 5...2 of which are a couple that I work alongside my co-therapist with 1 an individual who we work with together and my 2 individual clients that I see by MYSELF! It's a slow and steady progress with all of them but progress nonetheless that we are proud of. It's amazing how I watched myself grow from worrying, "what the hell follow up question do I ask now after hearing all of this context?" to really feeling like I'm asking good follow up questions that help me sift through all the content and pinpoint the flaw in their process. I have also been accepted into my number 1 pick for my internship site and am so excited to be starting soon in January! The biggest challenge however will be holding onto my current job while juggling school, my clients at the clinic on campus and the case loads I'll have at my internship site; but no matter how anxious I am about the start to my busy upcoming semester, I'm beyond excited especially because finally I actually feel like these people's therapist.
I shock myself everytime I walk into one of the therapy rooms and begin a session and can confidently map out a negative pattern my client(s) is/are having, or challenge a negative assumption they developed about something or their partner, or whenever I reframe their perception of something into something positive. The biggest improvement I've made is being able to get through all the surface level content and finding the root of their problem and trust me it's an amazing feeling when Johnny is complaining of Susie nagging him about his friendship circle and complaining about how mush she hates his friends and you're able to sift through that "problem " only to see that what really is the issue is that Susie feels neglected and wants to spend more quality time with him.
Moreover today marked my very last day of the first semester of my last year! wow this year is flying by sooo very fast! This time next year, I'll be happy to say I will have my degree in hand (M.A. MFT to be exact!). Besides school, work and the usual day to day routine, life is well on my end and treating me very kindly :) until next time...Catch you chick-a-dees later!
