Deets for Creating a BOMB Resumé!

Hey Ladies!

Hope everyone is enjoying this blissful holiday season and finally getting into the holiday spirit! While you're settling in, relaxing and enjoying some much needed time off from school and a few days here and there off from work....new years is right around the corner shortly after Christmas and with new years comes New year's resolutions, new beginnings and cheers to hitting the ground running with a fresh start! With that being said for those of us still in school or wrapping it up or even thinking about starting back, lets talk business for a bit and discuss the importants of a BOMB resume. With job apps getting cut, edited and submitted and intership season stealing the show for some of us....what does it take to create an eye catching resume? Welp, let's get into it!

First things first, aside from making sure that your name and address as well as other important contact information is listed on there somewhere at the top in legible font, be sure to include a brief excerpt in regards to your objective and why it is that you're applying for this position; whether you're applying for an internship or job...it serves to answer the question, "Why is this chick even sending us their resume to begin with?"

Next you'll want to show off a bit and list a series of important as well as RELEVANT skills of which you possess. If you're a wiz at all things Microsoft Office related...go on and showcase it, if your someone who's a critical thinker, flexible in chaotic situations and a creative problem solver...list those things as well.

You'll next want to start thinking about the experiences in which you've had over the years. Try your best to keep it as current and as relevant as possible. Also showcase your humanitarian side and be sure to list ANY and ALL volunteer experiences that you have had. It doesn't matter what position you are applying for, demonstrating that you have a collective approach and are passionate in helping others is GOLD to prospective employers or supervisors.

Something else to remember to include is any and all educational experience...highschool, colleges, graduate programs, and all other credentials should be included. Finally you'll want to list excellent references. These are the people that can back up what you've been bragging/preaching about in your resume..they validate that not only can you talk the talk, but that you can actually walk the walk as well. Be sure to keep a good networking circle and to periodically check in with these people from time to time to update them on all the latest ins and outs of your career paths. They'll feel appreicated and wont roll their eyes everytime you shoot an email years later asking for a recommendation of warning them that someone may check in about your credentials.

Other than that once you've included all of the above things and have PROOF READ it, you're ready to send it off! Remember your resume at max should be about 2 - 3 pages especially if your in your 20 somethings. This is an opportunity to put your best foot forward and brag/sell yourself on why you are a great investment...so shine on and celebrate your accomplishments and achievements because you're bound to secure that position in the bag!
