While driving home from my internship, The Girl Next Door by Musiq Soulchild began playing on the radio. The song is about the girl next door who he grew up with but kinda just saw her as one of the boys, he put teasing her before being genuine and nice to her and she was completely overlooked by him. Fast forward she grew up and went away to college and came home during break and all of a sudden he saw her in a different light and immediately began to rethink how he treated her when they were growing up. As women and men too, growing up we allhave those guys and girls who used to tease and taunt us to get our attention and then something changes and all of a sudden we are seen in a different lense by them.
Now take the example of the girl next door and put it into the mind frame of other things in life that you once had the pleasure and opportunity to experience and take on and how because we didn't see the value in it in that moment, when one looks back at it in hindsight, how often we all wish would have taken the time with those opportunties. Whether it be a job you never thought twice about until something occured to where you wish you had taken it later on in life, giving a new friend an opportunity to get to know you or even taking a moment to appreciate those that were there in your corner when no one else understood or could be counted on to be there or if it literally was the guy or girl next door that you never bothered to give a second thought about. Of all these are examples of the girl next door in our world of different variations, the most important thing to remember and keep in mind about these moments in time and opportunities before they slip you by are that if you don't take the time and opportunity to get to know your own variation of your "girl next door", you will always be left wondering what if. So take the job, make the time to spend with the new friend, acknowlege those that have been there in more ways than you can count and acknowledge their worth, time and energy they've put into to helping build you up....because time waits for no one and opportunities have expiration dates.
