With just 4 more months left until graduation, the summer before my last semester has been and is still quite the whirl wind. Getting face to face client contact hours is still a struggle...who'd have thought teenagers wanting confidential services would be notorious for standing up their therapist. In other news guess what I'm currently gearing up for? Thats right! Applying for Ph.D programs particularily in marriage and family therapy and as a back up plan I'm also going to be applying for a few counseling Ph.D programs. It's so surreal to believe that I'm applying for my very last and final degree ever! As a result, I've been a nervous wreck getting all of my requirements for admissions together for programs and organizing all of my deadlines for when their apps are due, still trying to at least put a word on my personal statement, take the god aweful GRE in October and get my letters of recommendation together! It's like college all over again! I've chosen about 5-7 schools so far that I want to apply to and their all of state which I'm really excited to see where I get accepted and will even think about where I'd like to plant my private practice!
In other news, something else I am working is a collaborative research project with another grad school student in Portland....the research topic is top secret for now...but as a hint it has to do with Black Families and simply bringing awareness! Also as my final year approaches and I've narrowed down what theory of therapy I'd like to use in my future practice...I now bare the weight of my last big stressor from my Master's program, in addition to finishing my 500 client contact hours I also have to complete a presentation on the theory of my choosing in front of all of our professors/ the director of the program and my classmates...my anixety is already through the roof just thinking about it! but im also super excited to put it all together to present it. Other than that, school wise that's pretty much the latest! Stay tuned for more deets on what this process of applying to Ph.D programs will look like abd more grad school updates!
